The Engel Gallery was founded in Jerusalem in 1955 with the aim of promoting and exhibiting Israeli art in Israel and abroad. The gallery has published a number of prints and books, collaborates constantly with local and international museums and participates in art fairs. In the early eighties the second generation of the Engel family launched a gallery in Tel aviv.
The Tel Avivian branch of the Engel Gallery holds temporary exhibitions of contemporary art by established artists and the aim of the exhibitions is to create and explore a discourse about the place of art in Israeli culture. There is artwork by three generations of Israeli artists in the gallery's collections as well as modern European art and contemporary art.
